FOOD SATIETY
Although Food Optimising works well, I don’t want to fall into the trap of simply eating for the sake of it. I suffer with acid reflux, and I’ve noticed that when I overeat, I feel bloated and uncomfortable. This week I’ve been working on satiety, learning which foods truly fill me up without leaving me uncomfortable.

What I discovered:

  • Protein-rich foods (like lean meats, eggs, fish, and beans) keep me fuller for longer.
  • High-fibre foods (such as wholemeal bread, porridge, potatoes, lentils, and fibrous fruit and veg) give me lasting fullness.
  • High-volume, low-energy-density foods (like salads, oranges, and vegetables) add bulk without adding unnecessary calories.
  • Solid foods are generally more satisfying than liquids, eating something substantial feels more filling than drinking calories.

By focusing on foods with a higher satiety index, I can manage my appetite better and avoid the discomfort of overeating. Potatoes, baked beans, and fibrous vegetables have become some of my best “comfort foods,” while I’m learning to limit things like crisps, cakes, and white bread, which don’t fill me up and can trigger reflux.

Understanding satiety has helped me make more satisfying choices this week, food that fuels me, comforts me, and supports my health goals.

SLIMMING WORLD SAS DAILY LOG
My first week back, our consultant introduced us to the Slimming World SAS daily logs. If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing everything right with Food Optimising but the scales don’t quite reflect your hard work, you’re not alone. This is where the Slimming World SAS daily log can make all the difference.

SAS stands for Slimmers Against Sabotage and the SAS daily log is designed to help you shine a light on the little habits and behaviours that might be sabotaging your weight loss.

WHY USE THE SAS DAILY LOG?
The SAS daily log isn’t about guilt or punishment. It’s about awareness and empowerment. By using it, you can:

  • Track your food honestly.
  • Identify when and why you go off plan.
  • Spot triggers like stress, tiredness, or boredom.
  • See patterns in your eating habits.
  • Learn to celebrate your daily wins, not just focus on slips.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The SAS daily log gives you space each day to write down:

  • What you ate or drank (including Syns).
  • How you felt at the time (hungry, stressed, celebrating, tired, etc.).
  • Things you’re proud of today (your positive choices, no matter how small).

By looking back at the log, you’ll start to see what’s driving your food choices and how to gently steer yourself in a healthier direction.

If you would like to use a SAS daily log as part of your Slimming World journey have a chat with your consultant, who will take you through the process and give you a pack for the week. The SAS daily log is also available to download from the Slimming World website as a PDF.

TIPS FOR USING THE SAS LOG EFFECTIVELY

  1. Be honest. Write down everything, even the unexpected biscuit or late-night snack. This isn’t about shame, it’s about truth.
  2. Notice patterns. Do you reach for crisps when you’re tired? Does stress make you crave sugar?
  3. Plan ahead. If you spot your danger times (like evenings or weekends), prepare Free or Speed foods in advance so you’re not caught out.
  4. Celebrate wins. Use the “things I’m proud of” section every day, it builds a positive mindset.
  5. Learn, don’t punish. A day with higher Syns doesn’t mean failure. The SAS daily log helps you bounce back with your very next meal.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE SAS DAILY LOG
This week, I used the SAS daily log for the first time, I preferred using it to the original food diary that your consultant gives you on your first week. First of all, there is more room to write everything down and you get seven double sided sheets on for each day of the week. Using the SAS daily log this week really helped me to:

  • Plan my week more carefully.
  • Track my Syns and food honestly.
  • Reflect on my relationship with food.

I realised that if I let myself go too long without eating, I’m more likely to make poor choices. I also discovered that high-satiety foods (like jacket potatoes, beans, and lean protein) make me feel fuller and reduce the temptation to snack.

Most importantly, I learnt that if I do go over my Syns in one sitting, it doesn’t mean I’ve blown the whole week. The next meal is always an opportunity to reset.

FINAL THOUGHTS
The Slimming World SAS daily log is more than just a food diary, it’s a mindset tool. It helps you understand the “why” behind your eating habits and gives you practical strategies to take back control.

If you’re feeling stuck or just want to learn more about your eating patterns, give the SAS daily log a try. You might be surprised at what you learn about yourself and how much more empowered you feel on your Slimming World journey.
