Body Magic Diaries – Day One

Today marks the beginning of my Body Magic journey. I set off for an early morning walk with my neighbour, Fitbit strapped on, showered and ready to go. An hour of fresh air, conversation, and steady steps felt like the perfect way to begin.

I read that walking first thing, before breakfast, can help you burn more calories, so I did a little digging. The idea is that with lower glycogen stores first thing in the morning, your body may turn more readily to fat for energy. Research suggests this is true to a small degree, but the bigger picture is clear: it’s not so much about whether you walk before or after breakfast, but about walking consistently. The habit is what brings the change.

For me, starting the day with movement sets the tone. It reminds me that health is a journey of steady steps, not sudden leaps. This first walk was not just about exercise, but about friendship, rhythm, and making space for body and mind.

One day down, many more to go. I’ll be logging my steps and sharing the journey here, small victories, lessons learned, and encouragement for anyone else lacing up their trainers and beginning their own Body Magic adventure.
